Step One: Book your IUD Screening Call

Phone or book online for same week appointments. If you don’t see one online call and we will find you a time

02

Step Two: Your IUD Screening Call

One of our doctors will call to help you choose the right IUD, answer your questions, and determine if any additional screenings (e.g., STI testing, pap smears) are needed. They will also review the insertion process, discuss comfort options, and send your IUD prescription to your pharmacy. We’ll schedule your IUD insertion at the optimal time in your menstrual cycle.

03

Step Three: Your IUD Appointment

You will have a dedicated appointment time that will be relaxed and unhurried, with all available comfort measures. We ensure optimal placement with ultrasound-guided insertion and post-insertion checks to confirm ideal placement.

04

Step Four: Follow-Up Visit

Return to the clinic after 4-6 weeks to check your IUD placement and ensure there are no complications.

Gentle IUD Insertions: Our Approach

We implement a trauma-informed, patient-centered approach for IUD insertions, as recommended by the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC), emphasizes creating a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all patients. It recognizes that prior trauma or negative healthcare experiences can influence a patient’s comfort and willingness to undergo procedures like IUD insertion.

Pain Management Options

Ibuprofen or acetaminophen can reduce cramping and inflammation before and after insertion.

Local anesthetic numbs the cervix, significantly reducing insertion discomfort.

Methoxyflurane is an inhaled gas that rapidly relieves pain and anxiety during the procedure. Patients control the dose through a handheld inhaler. Penthrox is available upon request and may require a longer appointment time. Our doctors are all trained on how to safely administer Penthrox.

In select cases, we use medication to soften and dilate the cervix, making insertion easier.

IUD insertions are scheduled during or right after your period, when the cervix is naturally more open.
